How do I get a library card?
Library cards are free to those residing within the city limits of Corpus Christi. A person of any age may apply for a library card. Children under the age of 18 need to have a parent or guardian present when applying for a card. You can download a library card application here (pdf document).
Can my child get a library card?
Yes, your children can get a library card with the parent or guardian present with ID and documention.
How can I renew a library card?
Library cards don't need to be renewed anymore, but some older cards still have an expiration date attached to them. If your card is expired, simply call or go to any branch for a free renewal.
How do I replace a lost or stolen card?
Simply report the lost or stolen card to any branch and you will be issued a new card with a different number one you provide a phot ID.
What can I do with my library card?
Borrowing books is just one of the things you can do with a library card. You can download and listen to audio books on your home computer through the Overdrive Audio Library. You can access the TexShare Databases, an invaluable collection of research tools. Your library card number also allows you access to our public computers.
How many items can I borrow at once?
You can borrow 25 items at once, up to 5 of which can be DVDs.
How do I borrow an item?
Simply take the items you wish to borrow to the circulation desk and present your library card. You will receive a receipt with the due date for your records.
How can I borrow an item from a school?
Since some of our branches collaborate with schools, our catalog also displays items located at Corpus Christi Independent School District Libraries. With the exception of Flour Bluff High School, we cannot lend books from the school system, as they belong to CCISD.
How do I hold an item?
You can hold items at the circulation desk or call in a hold. A hold can also be place from the library's online catalog. You can also use the iPhone app BookMyne from the Apple Store to place holds. Any library can hold an item, but it is always best to place the hold at the library where the item is located. Items are held for 7 days before being returned to the shelves.
How do I transfer an item?
The library with the item has to be notified to transfer the item. Your local library can call and arrange this, or you can make the call yourself. A transfered item will arrive at the library after 4:00pm on the next weekday. Items transferred on Friday will arrive on Monday after 4:00pm.
Can I get an item that none of the libraries has?
Corpus Chrsiti Public Libraries is part of the South Texas Library System, and can request items from libraries across the nation. The timeframes and chances of success in borrowing an item from another library system depend on the number of copies available, the location of the libraries, and the discretion of the lending system.
How do I renew an item?
You can renew books over the phone or in person. Renewals can also be made from the library's online catalog from the My Account screen. You can also use the iPhone app BookMyne from the Apple Store to renew your items. Each renewal extends the due date by 2 weeks, and each item can be renewed a maximum of 2 times. Items cannot be renewed when another patron has requested the item.
How do I return an item?
You can renew an item in person or via the book drop located outside each branch library. An item can be returned to any library, and an item returned in the book drop after hours will be considered returned on that day and will be processed the next morning.
